Description:
Mirror Parts or Features

The entire solid model or solid model features can be mirrored about a specified plane. This is useful when designing symmetric parts. The model in the image below was created by designing one quarter of the model and mirroring the entire model twice.

General Steps

Use the following general steps to mirror an entire part or features of a part:

  1. Start the mirroring process.
  2. Define the objects to pattern.
  3. Select the plane to mirror about.
  4. Define additional mirror pattern options, as necessary.
  5. Complete the mirroring process.

Step 1: Start the mirroring process.

To begin mirroring an entire part or part features, select in the Part Features Panel. The Mirror Pattern dialog box appears as shown in the image below.

If you mirror a feature that has dependent features, the dependent features are also mirrored.

Step 2: Define the objects to pattern.

is selected by default. This allows you to create a pattern of individual features. To pattern the entire solid model, select . In addition to patterning the entire solid, you can select the work and surface features that you would like to include in the pattern.

Step 3: Select the plane to mirror about.

To mirror the model, select (Mirror Plane) and select a planar face or a work plane to mirror about.

Step 4: Define additional mirror pattern options, as necessary.

To access additional options, select . The expanded options are described in the table below.

Creation Method
Description
Optimized
Enables you to create mirrored features that are direct copies of the original features.
Identical
Enables you to create identically mirrored features, regardless of where they intersect another feature. Use this method to mirror large numbers of features when the features being mirrored terminate on a work plane.
Adjust to model
Enables you to mirror features individually. Use this method if the features being mirrored terminate on a model face (e.g., the To option in the Extrude dialog box).

Step 5: Complete the mirroring process.

Select to complete the mirroring process once the mirrored part is defined. A mirrored part and its associated browser are shown in the image below.
